Aligning immigration with the UK’s post-Brexit industrial strategy (UK)

Preliminary analysis of the UK labour market and other countries’ migration systems is set out in a note published by the Migration Advisory Committee as the starting point for a Call for Evidence that will help it advise on the economic and social impacts of Brexit and how the UK’s immigration system should be aligned with its post-Brexit industrial strategy.

The note does not make any policy recommendations or provide any conclusions and asks questions rather than answers them.

In addition to the note and the original briefing paper, ‘Call for evidence and briefing note: EEA-workers in the UK labour market’ links to the MAC’s responses to requests for clarification of issues relating to the call for evidence.

These issues include

  • the publication of interim reports
  • use of other data sources for analysing migrants’ labour market and skills characteristics
  • exclusion of Republic of Ireland nationals
  • separation of EU and non-EU nationals
