Most learner drivers will have to demonstrate their ability to follow directions from a specially provided sat nav in driving tests after 4 December, when the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) confirms that car driving tests will include the 4 changes that received overwhelming support from 3,900 respondents to a public consultation.
The other three changes are
- the duration of the independent driving part of the test will double to 20 minutes and candidates will have to drive without ‘turn by turn’ instructions from the examiner
- reversing manoeuvres will be changed
- 2 vehicle safety tests will be asked, one while the candidate is driving
‘Driving test: cars’ has been updated to cover the changes, which are also explained on a youtube video – ‘Driving test changes from December 2017: official DVSA guide’.
‘Despatch for driver and rider trainers’ provides official DVSA advice for the professionals involved.
