As part of the government’s on-going strategy for ensuring the UK can adapt to a changing climate, the challenges that will impact on the country’s economy, environment and public health have been identified and set out in ‘UK Climate Change Risk Assessment 2017’.
The new report recognises how the trend towards warmer winters, hotter summers and changing rainfall patterns is affecting communities across the UK and describes the government’s on-going investment in work to tackle these risks.
It will inform the second UK National Adaptation Programme, which will be published in 2018 to set out what government, business and society are doing to ‘become more climate ready’.
The six priority risk areas identified in the report relate to
- flooding and coastal change
- food production and trade
- pests and diseases and invasive non-native species
