A reward of up to £100,000 for whistleblowers headlines the first advertising campaign to be launched by the Competition and Markets Authority to crack down on illegal cartels – “businesses which cheat their customers and competitors by agreeing not to compete with each other in order to keep their prices high”.

In addition to encouraging people who have witnessed illegal activity to report it, ‘We’re cracking down on cartels’

  • explains what a cartel is
  • lists real-life case studies of cartel activity in 10 different business areas
  • features a quiz to test visitors’ knowledge of cartels

The campaign was launched following CMA research that found while most businesses have a shared ethical sense that conduct such as price-fixing is unfair or wrong, less than 25% of them said they knew competition law well.
