Home Logic UK limited has been flagged up by the Information Commissioner’s Office as the latest reminder to direct marketers that cold-calling people without first checking whether they are registered on the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) can carry a high cost.

‘Home Logic UK Ltd Monetary Penalty Notice’ sets out the details of the £50,000 penalty levied on the domestic energy firm after 133 people, who had registered on ‘Telephone Preference Service’, complained they had received nuisance calls from it between 1 April 2015 and 31 July 2016.

Home Logic explained that the electronic dialer system it used to screen numbers against the TPS register had been out of order for most of this period, although it continued to  make unscreened calls. ICO pointed out that there is no excuse for calling people on the TPS register.

‘TPS Corporate Website’ explains how businesses can buy a licence to use TPS and links to details of the mailing, fax and baby mail preference services.
