17.5m full-time workers aged 25 and over benefited from an inflation-busting 30p per hour pay rise from 1 April, when the National Living Wage was increased to £7.50.

Around 200,000 workers aged 21 to 24 years also received their second pay rise in 6 months when the National Minimum Wage was boosted to £7.05. Other NMW rates are

  • £5.60 ph for 18-20 year olds
  • £4.05 ph for 16-17 year olds
  • £3.50 ph for apprentices

‘Calculating the minimum wage: Guidance’ – which also applies to the NLW – uses examples to explain

  • what counts/does not count as pay and working hours for NMW
  • who is eligible for it
  • how to calculate it
  • how the Dept for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy will enforce it

In ‘National Minimum Wage & National Living Wage’, Acas sets out all the current NLW and NMW rates in tabular form.
