Survey solicits suppliers’ views on supermarket sharp practices (UK)
Suppliers to retailers regulated by the Grocery Code have been invited by the code’s adjudicator, Christine Tacon, to contribute their views to a YouGov mini-survey focusing on three of the top current issues that could potentially be unfair for suppliers.
‘Welcome to the 2017 GCA Mini Survey’ leads into the short survey dealing with
- retailers overbuying at promotional price and subsequently selling at full price and any other behaviour relating to promotions that the respondent feels to be unfair or unlawful
- cost of inaccurate forecasting by the retailer being passed back to the supplier
- delays/deductions in payments for a wide range of reasons including, but not limited to, delays in paying entire invoices where only part of it is disputed and deductions for
– alleged short deliveries
– duplicated invoices
– unknown or unagreed items
– current and historic promotion fees
In addition to seeking views – and, where possible, examples of these issues – the survey offers respondents the option of naming the retailers and type of product involved.
Information submitted to the survey will be treated in the strictest confidence and used to help the adjudicator find the best way to “encourage retailers to improve their practices”.
