The online vehicle recall search tool voluntarily introduced by the motor industry in 2015 to enable users to carry out searches for outstanding safety recalls on specific cars has achieved an 80% increase in usage, making it one of the most visited resources on the Motor Ombudsman’s site.
‘Vehicle Recalls’ logged 109,000 page views between 01 January – 30 April 2017 – which equates to a 60,000 increase in traffic compared to the same period in 2016. The portal is now on course to surpass the 240,000 views logged during the whole of 2016.
To find out whether participating car manufacturers have recalled a specific make or model under the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency recall scheme, users simply need to enter information – including the unique, 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number – into the tool.
The results reveal almost instantly whether any remedial work is required on that particular vehicle. They are complemented by web links to both the manufacturer and the nearest accredited franchise dealership to arrange rectification of any faults.
