Sites re-selling beyond a certain volume of tickets would have to be licensed if no progress is made by secondary ticket sites on compliance with new rules in the Consumer Rights Act (CRA) 2015, under one of nine recommendations made by the review of new and existing consumer protection measures required by the Act.
While the focus of the review was the online secondary ticket market for recreational, sporting or cultural events in the UK, it also examined how consumers are affected by the interaction between the primary and secondary ticketing markets.
‘Review of consumer protection measures applying to ticket resale: call for evidence’ covers more than 1,100 responses, including many from disgruntled customers.
‘Government response to Professor Waterson’s Independent Review: Consumer protection measures concerning Online Secondary Ticketing Facilities’ lists the responses alongside the nine recommendations – which are lead by the call for a lead body such as National Trading Standards to carry out a detailed investigation of compliance with the new CRA rules, followed by action co-ordinated with the police
