Good Housekeeping is important say CPA!

Ensuring your details are presented clearly on all professional platforms and correspondence should be common sense for any successful business leader. If a problem arises with a customer or a supplier, and you involve external credit management, not making your identity and details crystal clear can make a quick and successful result less likely.

Here at Credit Protection Association we encourage all our Members and clients to maintain good housekeeping, but many of them fail to include their company details on correspondence with us and/or our Members. This can lead to miscommunication and a longer road to debt recovery.

At least half of the businesses that we are asked to investigate by our members do not show their correct legal status on their website. This leads us to the conclusion that these companies could be deliberately trying to discourage creditors, which makes us even more determined to investigate! Bear in mind if a member has asked us to investigate someone they normally owe money!

Under Sections 82 to 84 of the Companies Act 2006 a limited companies letter-headed paper, emails and website must disclose the full company name, company number, registered office address and place of registration (i.e. a statement such as …. Registered in England and Wales)

What can you do?

The first thing we should all do is check our own emails and our own company websites to make sure that we are complying ourselves and not sending out the wrong message.

Secondly when opening new accounts always use the credit application that CPA supplies to members/clients. It always makes sense to check your customer’s website before opening an account.

If they don’t have the required information shown on their site, why not? Check if there are any discrepancies between the information they give on their application and the site, such as email addresses.

The more you check now the less likely you are to get an overdue account or a debt!

If you are unsure in any way of the information supplied then remember members/clients can always give the Helpdesk team a call!
