£25m planning delivery fund boosts new homes and infrastructure in England (E)
The first £11m of a new £25m Planning Delivery Fund is now available to help local authorities and third sector organisations in areas of high housing need acquire the skills and capacity needed to make high quality contributions locally to the government’s plans to build an average of 300,000 homes per year in England by the mid-2020s.
Particularly aimed at encouraging more innovation in the design quality of new homes by helping local authorities access design advice and support, the fund also enables local authorities and third sector organisations – either separately or in partnership – to draw on funding to help them stimulate and support the innovative delivery of planning services.
‘Planning Delivery Fund: prospectus’ links to the main prospectus providing an overview of the fund, as well as annexes comprising ‘expressions of interest’ forms relating to bids for funding support during 2017/18 and 2018/19 for
- joint working
- high quality design
- innovation
Other measures announced alongside the Planning Delivery Fund include
- a further £3 million funding to support the delivery of the 14 garden villages, with between 1,500 and 10,000 homes, that are part of the government’s existing programme of 24 locally-led garden cities, towns and villages with the potential to deliver 220,000 homes
- ‘The New Towns Act 1981 (Local Authority Oversight) Regulations’ – a consultation on draft regulations to allow the creation of locally led new town development corporations and help speed up the delivery of new garden towns
