Enhancing North-Eastern transport links could help regional productivity, according to a new report by KPMG.
Ahead of the Chancellor of Exchequer’s Budget next week, the Big Four firm has launched its inaugural UK regional productivity report.
Productivity overall plays a key part in the long term economic prosperity of the UK.
The study insisted that improving regional infrastructure, particularly transport links and improving skills are vital if the UK is to boost productivity.
Chris Hearld, partner and North region chairman at KPMG UK urged that improving transport linkes is crucial to unlocking the productivity of the North. Hearld suggested infrastrcuture programmes be a top priority for the goverment in the next few years.
Yael Selfin, chief economist at KPMG UK believed concentrating on the different regions of the UK was key to solving the country’s productivity puzzle. He further hoped to see a regionally targeted approach in the Chancellor’s Budget next week.
