Sectors Prepare For Robot Takeover

6th February 2018.

New research has estimated that the British workplace could be widely affected by automatons by the mid 2030s.

According to accountancy firm, PwC, automatons will strike in three waves over the next 15 years. While the first wave will affect simple digital tasks like banking or customer service, the subsequent waves will cast a much wider net. As technology starts to dominate our personal and professional lives, some menial tasks have been delegated to automatons. Supermarkets and cinemas already use self-checkout machines and the majority of banking and retail is now available online. Here at the Credit Protection Association we have automated our systems to provide online chat and online credit reporting for our customers. While this has of course altered our dedicated personal approach, this has provided our customers with a quicker and more efficient system.

Accountancy firm, PwC has estimated that almost a third of British jobs could be affected by automation over the next 15 years.

Furthermore, by the end of the next decade, up to 20 per cent of jobs could be affected as advances are made in developing drones, robots in warehouses and semi-autonomous vehicles.

As many as 30 per cent of existing UKĀ jobs could feel the impact by the mid-2030s, with the transport, manufacturing and retail sectors hit worst.

The digital age is not coming, it has already arrived. Our lives are already dominated by machines, from our microwave to our television and mobile phones. It only makes sense therefore that businesses adapt to this cultural reliance, by incorporating automatons into their business layout. Online banking has become popular; ticket machines, mobile retail apps, and train schedules are also now available online. If business owners are going to connect with customers, and therefore create sales, they need to reshuffle their business priorities accordingly.

Our members at the Credit Protection Association have expressed fear for their role in this new digital world, and have been hesitant to embrace technology as a result. We encourage all business owners to accept innovations the future of the corporate landscape. The business culture of the UK is a competitive environment, and you risk being left behind if you don’t run out in front.
