WEEE compliance fee methodology (UK)
Respondents are invited to a) submit their views on whether a waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) compliance fee should be set for 2017 and b) evaluate proposals submitted by two external organisations setting out how this year’s fee should be calculated and administered and the funds dispersed.
The cost of handling WEEE arising from households is met by equipment producers through a system of collection targets set by ‘The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013’ – which also give the secretary of state discretionary powers to approve an annual fee that is payable by producer compliance schemes and obligated businesses that fail to meet their targets.
External organisations are invited each year to submit proposals for the methodology for calculating and administering the fee. Environmental compliance business, Valpak, and the Joint Trades Associations (JTA) – which were the only two businesses to submit proposals this year – have both dictated the fee in the past.
‘Consultation on WEEE Compliance Fee Methodology 2017’ links to the consultation document, the two sets of proposals and documents setting out guidance/evaluation criteria.
The chosen methodology will be announced early in 2018.
