Why Business Is Listening to Labour

Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn recently went down a storm with business leaders at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) conference last week.

13th November 2017

Corbyn stated his plans to nationalise vast tracts of the economy and crack down on tax avoidance. These proposals sat well with his professional audience, particularly those who could be brought into public control under a Labour government.

With the Conservative government struggling with the aftermath of Brexit and current economic turmoil, Corbyn is offering businesses a welcome alternative if his party came into power.

According to The Guardian, business leaders have started to seriously consider the possibility of a Labour government. Business leaders have stated asking accountants and lawyers what a Corbyn-led government could mean for their business prospects.

Above all, Corbyn could stand as a business ally in opening doors to the European Union’s single market. Corbyn promises to finish negotiations that the conservatives have long delayed.

Corbyn insisted in his speech at the CBI conference that Labour has “common grounds” with business, valuing government’s “day-to-day working relationship” with businesses and companies across the UK.
