Companies Asked For Proof Of Sexual Harassment Safeguards

11th December 2017.

The UK’s top businesses have been warned by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) to supply proof that they act to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.

In the wake of the Hollywood and Westminster sexual harassment scandals, The EHRC wrote a letter to leading employers threatening them with enforcement powers, if ‘reasonable’ steps weren’t taken.

The Commission has also published ‘Sexual harassment and the law: Guidance for employers’, which includes examples of sexual harassment; as well as sections on employers’ obligation, anti-harassment policy, handling complaints, and the details on the overlap between sexual harassment and criminal offences.

The ECHR guidance complements a recent sexual harassment publication from the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) to help employers and employees identify, and deal, with sexual harassment at work.
