Guidance on new patents fees (UK)

The new fees that will come into force from 6 April for applications for new patent protection and renewal of granted patents are summarised in tabulated form alongside the present fees, then explained in greater detail in an accompanying commentary, in guidance produced by the Intellectual Property Office to enable businesses to familiarise themselves with the changes.

Covered in detail in CPA News at the immediate post-consultation stage (‘Changes to patents fees (UK)’, 20 November 2017), the changes were broadly supported by respondents and IPO was generally prepared to adjust its original proposals to take account of objections. The CPA News report also includes a link to the Regulation that introduced the changes.

‘New patent fees: guidance for business’ includes sections explaining

  • when the new fees will be introduced
  • why they will be introduced
  • specific fee changes
  • international applications entering the UK national phase
  • partial payment of fees
