Tesla Reveals Electric Tech

US car company, Tesla, has unveiled their first electric articulated lorry, designed to challenge diesel trucks as king of the road.

The long-anticipated Tesla Semi has a range of 500 miles on a single charge.

Tesla says the vehicle will go into production in 2019.

Tesla Chief executive Elon Musk also revealed a new electrically-run sports car, which he said would be “the fastest production car ever” made.

Musk described the company’s new electrical technology  as “a hardcore smackdown to gasoline cars”.

Nonetheless Tesla will struggle to compete with diesel, and specialists doubt Tesla can produce a powerful enough battery at a reasonable price.

While they refused to announce the product cost of the ‘Tesla Semi’, Tesla insists the lorry works out cheaper than a diesel equivalent when fuel and other maintenance is taken into consideration.

Tesla claims to hold the advantage over competitors with on-board safety and comfort. The ‘Semi’ will have on-board sensors to detect any issues, as well as automatic emergency braking and automatic lane keeping and departure warnings.

“The surround cameras aid object detection and minimise blind spots, automatically alerting the driver to safety hazards and obstacles, a Tesla spokesperson added.
