Small Business Saturday Reaches All Time High

According to research an estimated £748 million was spent with small businesses across the UK last weekend.
According to the Small Business Saturday campaign, last weekend was a blazing success for small businesses across the UK. £748 million was spent, making a 4 per cent increase on the year before.
Now in its fifth year, Small Business Saturday continues to enjoy the support of the British public.
The importance of supporting small businesses has filtered into the mainstream, with many showing support on social media. Over 115,000 tweets were sent on the day itself reaching more than 115 million people, with Small Business Saturday UK trending at number one in the UK.
Michelle Ovens MBE, Campaign Director of Small Business Saturday said: “In its fifth year, Small Business Saturday has once again seen a boost in spending with Britain’s small independent businesses”
Numbers of large corporations announced their support for the day; American Express General Manager, Charlotte Duerden, expressed her pride at having supported SBS last weekend.
Jo MacFarlane, owner of Jo MacFarlane, a luxury candle store in Anstruther, Scotland, even encouraged neighbouring business owners to get involved in the event, viewing involvement in the campaign as a privilege for any small business owner.
